Course description

This training is essential for educators interested in learning how trauma and chronic stress affect students’ learning, behavior and overall sense of wellbeing. Topics of discussion will include:

  • Definition and types of trauma

  • Prevalence of trauma

  • Impacts of trauma on students

  • Mitigation of trauma

  • Fostering resilience through body-based practices

  • Secondary Traumatic Stress, Compassion Fatigue, and Burnout

  • Self-Care for Educators

Trauma impacts cognition, behavior, learning, sensory motor processing, and social and emotional learning. This training will explore how trauma affects students and how a trauma sensitive approach can enhance resiliency and neuroplasticity.

This training will also empower teachers to navigate the personal challenges associated with caring for students who are experiencing chronic stress and traumatic events.

Teachers will leave this training with practical strategies to employ in the classroom to create trauma-sensitive classrooms through the support of behavior management, cognition, as well as social and emotional learning.
