Full Course Description & Educational Objectives

We collaborated with experts in the field of trauma to bring you a comprehensive evidence and inquiry based 50 hr trauma-informed yoga teacher training. Scholarships will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis to students with demonstrated need who plan to take the learnings back out into the world and impact underserved or underrepresented communities.

As a student in this training you will:

  • Gain a deeper understanding of what trauma is and the impact. Specifically, how traumatized people process information, trauma symptoms, and how trauma impacts sensorimotor processing.

  • Learn how trauma affects children’s proprioception, interoception, brain development, emotional regulation, and cognition.

  • Through exploration of A.C.E , complex trauma, developmental trauma, and attachment theories, you will be able to articulate the range of adaptation to trauma in early life.

  • Learn tools to increase heart rate variability, increase neuroplasticity, decrease activity in the default mode network, induce the relaxation response,  support nervous system regulation, body awareness, and communication. These skills will be useful in your own journey as well valuable to integrate in your role as a teacher.

  • You will have tools to make your standard classes more trauma sensitive. Through practicum, you will feel empowered to offer trauma-informed yoga classes with individuals and small groups.

  • We will explore recent advances in neurobiology of trauma, and how trauma-informed yoga can be a body-based tool for those healing trauma.

Please note: Missing more than two hours of training, will require the individual to pay for an individual session(s) with one of our trauma facilitators, to be eligible for certification

As part of the post-course completion elements you will be required to complete two one-on-one mentoring sessions with a facilitator of the BWF 50hr. TIYTT. The purpose of mentoring is to support practitioners with developing their trauma-informed yoga teaching/facilitation skills and ensure practitioners have integrated the core elements of trauma-informed yoga into their offerings. Mentees can expect a supportive and collaborative experience where strengths and growing opportunities are honored.

Sessions can be completed in person (depending on facilitation availability) or via phone/online medium. Eech mentoring session is $100 and can be scheduled and paid for through the BWF website.

Mentoring session 1: Must be booked within one month of completing the training. At least 1 TIY class must have been taught and filmed for review before the time of the first mentoring call.

Mentoring session 2: Must be completed within 1 year of completing the training. It is recommended to be completed before the 10th TIY class required for training certification. Please have a video to review available.

It is up to the mentor’s discretion to decide if a participant may need additional support to become certified through BWF and mentors may suggest or require additional growth work. Participants may also decide to complete additional mentoring. Once course completion requirements are met, participants will receive certification and are eligible to be listed on the BWF graduates directory. Following course completion, one mentoring session must be completed every two years in order to remain listed on the directory.
